Here are a few of my favorite things this week:
Favorite pet picture: Ned is currently with Anna’s Cats in San Diego. This little guy is just like a normal kitten, even with the diagnosis he and his brother share. You can find out more about him on petfinder.com.
Favorite Book Quote: Anatomy of the Spirit: The Seven Stages of Power and Healing by Caroline Myss
Grace is the breath of God—an invisible essence beyond intellect that moves swiftly amongst us. It is not only possible to become a living conduit of this powerful force, grace is immediately accessible to us along with the courage to follow divine guidance.
Random Favorite: Parking lot internet
I’ve found myself in the car quite a bit lately. It’s funny how a car ride can lull passengers into a relaxed sleep, isn’t it? When this happens, I’ve found myself in parking lots getting work done on my computer. I always like to support the establishment that I borrow internet from, so, now the goal is to find internet at a drive-thru establishment that might actually benefit my body to support! If you have any suggestions, leave a comment to let me know!
Question
Can we control our body with our mind? Would we want to?
Yes, I believe so. Perhaps you’ve even done it before! Have you ever calmed gotten scared and then calmed your racing heart by focusing on taking deep breaths? You’ve controlled what is typically automatic (autonomic) with your mind.
Here is just one small example:
There was research in the 80’s on Tibetan monks. This research was done by a cardiologist from Harvard who went to Tibet to disprove the “powers” these monks were supposed to have. Instead, he found that they could control their oxygen levels, brain patterns, and body temperature in ways that seem like magic to people in the West. One of the experiments was to, in freezing cold weather, wrap them in wet sheets. They were able to use meditation and visualization to dry off and warm up. That seems like it would only be useful as a parlor trick here; we’re supposed to be “safer at home” in our climate controlled places of residence. However, in Chinese medicine, viruses (like the one that has significantly changed our lives in 2020) are cold. This one, in particular, tends to be very “cold” and very “damp”. What if there were a way we could heat our own bodies on purpose (in just the same way a fever heats up our bodies to denature bacterial enzymes and kill bacteria and viruses) if we felt we were getting sick or were exposed to something? Warming up the cold and drying the damp would be extremely powerful to prevent getting sick and allow us to get better quickly if we were to get sick. That would open up so many possibilities, especially if the majority of the population could do it. It would allow us to care for sick loved ones and reassure them with a smile. It would reduce fear and help us get our economy back on track. It would allow us to re-enter into society in a new, more conscious way.
Sadly, most of us will never experience the power of this particular meditation. Luckly, there are things like acupuncture, herbs, and dietary changes that can help us in a similar way.
I need to admit that sometimes I’m not even in control my mood enough to do the simple meditations I offer in the Daily Energy Updates. Maybe I didn’t get enough sleep or I ate something that makes it hard for me to focus (like white sugar). When that happens, I turn to acupuncture and herbs (and dietary changes) to help me regain a higher vibration and be able to do the meditative and energetic work I feel so drawn to doing.
I encourage you to look into Tummo (the method of meditation and visualization that the Tibetan monks used) if you’d like to be more in control of your body. I’ve never done it but there is at least one course online. Let me know how it goes if you do! If you need help with healing your body, or your mind and emotions, an acupuncturist can provide powerful support. Due to the lockdowns, many are practicing telemedicine which means they can see you over the computer and offer you dietary and lifestyle advice, meditative exercises, and herbal formulas. That is a great place to start if you want better control of your mind so that you can use your mind to control your body.
