Here are a few of my favorite things this week:
Favorite pet picture: Introducing Denali. This beautiful girl is patiently waiting for a foster or forever home at Wagging Dog Rescue in Carlsbad, CA. She’s even got her own Facebook page! Check her and the other animals out at Wagging Dog Rescue. If you love Denali, you might want to check out this book as well. I’ve heard it’s so helpful.
Favorite Book Quote: The Five Rings: Miyamoto Musashi’s Art of Strategy
Note: I want these emails to be uplifting and, on the surface, fighting strategy might not seem like the most cheerful thing. However, I heard somewhere that the warriors of this time were also known for their powerful healing abilities. They used their deep knowledge of the body, mind, and spirit to both kill and heal. So, while this passage talks about using the knowledge to win a fight, I ask that you look at the strategy as a healer would. Remember: You are your own healer.
“Stifling the shadow” means if you see into the enemy’s body, there are places where his mind is overly occupied, and places where it is insufficiently engaged. If you draw his attention where his mind is already overly concentrated, and suddenly thrust your sword in the shadow where it is lacking, the enemy’s rhythm will be disrupted, and it will be easy to win. However, it is essential for your mind to remain fully engaged and not to miss the place to strike. This requires refinement.
Random Favorite: Surprises! Specifically, the look of amazement, joy, and awe on someone’s face when the pieces fall together and they realize what’s going on.
What is something you loved this week?
Question: Is an over-developed need for control a bad thing?
I wouldn’t say that it’s innately good or bad. It’s more of a symptom of deep insecurity. It’s a lack of faith in one’s self that becomes a lack of faith in a higher power and the outer world. Rather than being bad, I’d say it’s very “uncomfortable”. But the process of learning is uncomfortable, so embrace it and learn from it.
If you’re subscribed and you got today’s newsletter, there was a bit about letting go and trusting. But if you have an over-developed need for control, the next question would be “how do I learn to trust”?
I meditated on that, and here’s what I’ve come up with:
You can only learn to trust when you stop seeing yourself as alone. You are not. You are one - with God, the Holy Spirit, the Universe, and all of Creation. Whatever words you want to use, it is all the same thing and you are a part of it. You also must remember that you came here to learn certain lessons. It is easier to trust when you see those hardships as gifts to you for your benefit. Is it easy? No. If you wanted easy, you would have stayed in Heaven. You’re here to grow and learn. You’re here to expand and contribute love. When you’re trying to control everything, you contract and you can not let your light shine. Focus out. Focus on giving without worrying what you look like. Focus on receiving with grace. Focus on feeling the discomfort and experiencing gratitude for it. When you do that, you’ll focus less on control and more on being the person you came here to be. Trust will flow from that.
So, how did I do? Do you have any thoughts on the matter?

Do you know someone who would benefit from going with the flow rather than fighting the current?
Sales Pitch: My daily energy updates are quick and to the point so you know what to expect and how to deal with it. They don’t include jargon or explanations about this moon position or that planet or the meaning of this number or that belief system. Along with the energy update there is a meditation or activity that can support you and your family as you align with the energy of the day. It’s a whole lot easier to go with the flow than to fight the current!! When you subscribe, you can (usually) expect the daily energy updates in your inbox at 10pm PT the night before. Please keep in mind, the closer you are to California, the more accurate the timing of your update will be. (For example, I sometimes say that the energy will shift in the late morning.) The accompanying meditation/activity will still be beneficial for you and your family no matter how far from California you are.
