Favorite Pet Picture: In honor of World Kidney Day I’ve chosen to introduce you to a dog who is currently experiencing stage 3 kidney disease (along with a few other things) and needs a family who can give her a little extra loving care. Meet Cedar! She’s got the heart of a puppy and is looking for a “retirement home where she can get a big comfy bed and do her own thing”. She loves to snuggle and meets everyone with a wagging tail and perky ears. She is currently being cared for by Miles of Love Dog Rescue. If you know Cedar’s furever family, pass this along and introduce them!

The earth will support anything that supports life.
Random Favorite: Rain
As I sit here and listen to the rain, I am reminded how life-giving it is. The sound is soothing in a way I don’t get to experience very often. My family and I played in the rain and got completely soaked the other day. When we came in, the first thing I heard was “I needed that.”. I did too! But, with all the recent flooding and mudslides, I also realize that the rain is can be a strong reminder to live in harmony with nature and the consequences of being out of balance.
Question: What wisdom do I have to share?
This week, the question is my own. In a recent daily energy update, one of the exercises was to ask ourselves what wisdom we have to share. This is what I came up with after meditating on the question:
It will all be all right. Not in the sense that everything will turn out the way you/we want it to. But in the sense that you can learn from everything presented to you. Your biggest challenge is to be joyful. Have fun with life. It can seem like all the little things add up and the big things are really big. But step back. Are you ok right now, in this moment? Smile. Then approach everything as play. Not only will you enjoy life more, but you’ll learn more in the process. Have fun!
So often I find that when stuff gets heavy and I respond to it with heavy energy - usually anger or frustration - the heavy stuff gets worse. You know what helps? A joke. Using a pirate voice. Laughing. Those sorts of things shift the energy in me and then I can lighten the energy by taking a different approach.
But even when things aren’t heavy, even when it’s just every day stuff, I find that I can get stuck in the doing of things. Having fun requires making the choice to actually be present and have fun with whatever I’m doing.
Having fun is important for kids as well. According to Maria Montessori, “Play is the work of the child.” Neurobiologists also agree how important play is for learning and development in kids. (Wellness Mama has an easy-to-read article on that.) So why should it be any less important for adults?!
I guess that if I have something to learn, I might as well have fun doing it! (Or perhaps that’s been the lesson all along?)
