Favorite pet picture: Tiergan is looking for her forever Valentine! She’s going to need a lot of special love and care. But this sweet, sassy, spunky girl will warm your heart! She’s currently being cared for by Yoga4Cats. If you know her forever family, or you just want to share her beautiful face, pass this along!
Favorite book quote: Meditations of Marcus Aurelius Translated by Meric Casaubon
‘They kill me, they cut my flesh, they persecute my person with curses.’ What then? May not thy mind for all this continue pure, prudent, temperate, just? As a fountain of sweet and clear water, though she be cursed by some stander by, yet do her springs nevertheless still run as sweet and clear as before; yea though either dirt or dung be thrown in, yet is it no sooner thrown, than dispersed, and she cleared. She cannot be dyed or infected by it. What then must I do, that I may have within myself an overflowing fountain, and not a well? Beget thyself by continual pains and endeavors to true liberty with charity, and true simplicity and modesty.
Random favorite: Ayurvedic Rules for Drinking Water
I followed several rules for drinking water for a week:
I drank two glasses of water first thing in the morning (before brushing teeth).
I drank room temperature or warm water.
I only drank sitting down.
I sipped (with a breath in between each swallow) rather than guzzling.
I stopped drinking the majority of my water during meals.
Here’s what happened: Nothing significant! My wrinkles didn’t disappear. My digestion didn’t automatically improve. I wasn’t so energized that I stopped craving sugar. However, I believe that if I continue to drink water in this way, my skin will start to look younger, my digestion will be better, and my energy levels will improve - which would even stop the sugar cravings. (Sleep has been rough in our household lately and my body has been wanting sugar like other people need caffeine.)
But, I did drink more water than normal because I was being more conscious of when I was drinking. I also feel like I absorbed the water more efficiently. (If you feel like you pee out everything you drink - Ayurvedic drinking is the way to go!) And most importantly for me, I feel that consciously sitting down to drink and breathe was good for my mood and energy.
So, while a week wasn’t miraculous, I think that drinking in this way is very beneficial and I look forward to enjoying more of the benefits.
What are some of your favorite things this week?
Question: I know I’m done. I’m scared to end it. How do I know what to do next?
By “done” do you mean you no longer want to be doing what you’re doing? It sounds like you’re done doing the work you’re currently doing, but you’re scared to quit your job because you don’t know what to do next. I’ll approach the question from that point of view.
Most times, the path is not all laid out for us. Sometimes it comes one step at a time. You have to take action on the step you’re clear about and then another opportunity will present itself. But what if that seems irresponsible or dangerous? It’s all well and good to have faith and trust the process when you’re on your own, but what if you’ve got several mouths to feed and no idea of how to feed them if you let go of your current income? What then?
Sometimes the growth is in the leap.
But sometimes it’s enough to acknowledge the situation you’re in: You know it’s time to leave your job but you choose to wait until you have another way to feed your family and keep a roof over their heads. In that case, if the leap is required for your spiritual growth, you’ll find yourself being pushed off the cliff - you’ll get fired or the company will go under. Something will help make it clear that a leap is necessary.
Otherwise, to stay at your job and determine what’s next will require commitment. It will require that you stay completely focused on your work while you’re there (no “checking out”) and completely focused on meditation and listening to your own internal wisdom when you’re working out what to do next.
Nobody can tell you what to do - only you can figure that out. But the “how” of it is to be committed to finding the answer within and then letting that answer inspire you.
