Favorite Animal Picture: Tessa is with PAWS: Performing Animal Welfare Society. She is a little shy but loves to play with her ball and lay on her platform to watch all the happenings. She, and her other PAWS-mates, can be “adopted” or you can donate to the “Help Rescued Tigers” campaign.
Favorite Book Quote: Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
I've come to believe that there exists in the universe something I call "The Physics of The Quest" — a force of nature governed by laws as real as the laws of gravity or momentum. And the rule of Quest Physics maybe goes like this: "If you are brave enough to leave behind everything familiar and comforting (which can be anything from your house to your bitter old resentments) and set out on a truth-seeking journey (either externally or internally), and if you are truly willing to regard everything that happens to you on that journey as a clue, and if you accept everyone you meet along the way as a teacher, and if you are prepared – most of all – to face (and forgive) some very difficult realities about yourself...then truth will not be withheld from you." Or so I've come to believe.
Random Favorite: 5.11 Pants
(As cool as it would be to have a brand I love pay me to share my opinion, no, this is not a paid advertisement.)
I got a pair of 5.11 Stryke pants in khaki for my birthday. It’s funny how our daily costumes can affect the way we feel and who we are. I’ve been wearing my “mom uniform” for quite some time now. I can dress it up and make it look presentable, but I usually still feel like “just a mom”. Wearing my new pants helped me access a bit of my old spark. It felt good!
What were some of your favorite things this week?
Question: What does being afraid of death mean?
Many people are afraid of death because, perhaps, on some level, they believe they will cease to exist. Even devout Christians - ones who know where they are going when they die - fear death.
Your soul will go on after death. But your body, and the person you are because of the body you chose in this lifetime, will be gone forever.
So an important question that needs to be considered is why you chose your body. What was your purpose for coming into this life with your specific body? What did you intend to do with it? What did you want to learn from it? What can you experience in the body you’re in that you wouldn’t be able to experience otherwise?
Just like anxiety and depression are indicators that we need to make changes in our lives, a fear of death might indicate that there is something you’re meant to be doing that you haven’t addressed just yet.
Living life to the fullest is great. But, if it doesn’t address the fear, perhaps you need to look more deeply at what the fear wants you to know. What purpose is it trying to push you toward so that when you die, you can die peacefully - like a person getting into a comfortable bed after a long hard day of work well done.
