I got a new purse yesterday! I’ve been looking for something that is secure (zippers rather than buttons), functional, and not too big. I ended up finding the perfect purse. I only just realized that it’s made out of recycled plastic bottles, has an associated scholarship program, and supports Heartbeat Vietnam.

Question: How do I protect myself when I’m in a space that has a lot of lower-vibrational energy?

This is a question I’ve been meditating on. I’ve been doing a lot of clearing off and I hope to get better at protection. Here are some of the techniques I currently use and some I might benefit from incorporating. Plus, I’ve added some techniques to use if you’re taking on the energy of the space.
Say a prayer
Connect with God, your angels, your guides, and/or your ancestors and ask them to protect you. They are available, and they want to help you, but they can only do so much if you don’t ask. So ask them to protect you and to help you keep your own vibrations high.
Ground, clear, and reinforce your energy
Stand with your bare feet on the Earth.
Close your eyes and look within.
Imagine a tube going from your tailbone down to the center of Earth. See any energy that is not yours and any energy that no longer serves your highest good going down the tube like dirty bath water. When all the dirty bath water is out of your body, release the tube knowing that our amazing Earth can transmute that energy into love and light for the healing of all Creation.
It is time to call back your own energy. Ask that all your lost energy come back to you. See it being magnetically pulled back into a beautiful cloud over your head. Then ask that your energy be filled with light from Heaven.
Watch as the beautiful, glowing energy fills your body. Watch it fill the space around you and heal your aura.
Then see yourself being surrounded by a red “egg”. This protective energy will let in only love, joy, and peace.
Take a deep breath and open your eyes.
Do this before you go into a dense environment. You can also do a quick version of this any time you feel you need to reinforce your boundaries.
Use stones
Black Tourmaline can help with fear - when you’re feeling vulnerable to the environment. It also can help by absorbing and repelling negativity. Traditionally it was used as a talisman against black magic and can be used when you need psychic protection. (Careful with this one as it can cause a healing crisis.)
Peridot/Olivine can help with easing trauma and helping to relax anger. This can allow you to maintain a higher vibration. It was also traditionally used to protect from evil spirits.
Fire Opal was also traditionally used to ward off evil spirits.
Azurite-Malachite can help protect a home against negativity when placed at the entrance of the home.
Set Boundaries
You may benefit from using some of the techniques for setting boundaries that were suggested for when you’re affected by you children’s (or other peoples’) energy.
If you feel that you’ve been affected by the dense energy of another person or a space, here are a few other things you can do:
Pull the plugs
Sometimes other people/energies connect with us by plugging in to us. You can do a meditation that allows you to pull those plugs (also called cord-cutting). If you see that there is something controlling you or consuming your energy - a thought, another person’s opinions, a situation - cut their control over your thoughts and actions:
Bring that thing to mind and name it.
See that there is an energetic cord tying you to it.
Imagine pulling a double-headed plug from yourself.
Plug one end into Heaven and the other into Earth.
Now you are no longer energetically connected to that thing, put a red egg of protection around yourself.
Allow yourself to no longer be controlled by that thing.
Get grounded
You can do the meditation above to ground, clear, and reinforce your energy or you can just step on the earth with your bare feet. Imagine that you are releasing any lower-vibrational energy to Earth and accepting clear, higher-vibrational energy from Earth.
Get professional help
Many acupuncturists (especially those who study Classical Chinese Medicine, the eight extra channels, or Five Element Acupuncture) can help you to rebalance your energy if you’re having a hard time shaking off external energy. You may also want to consult a reiki practitioner, a shaman, a feng shui expert, or another spiritual practitioner that you trust.
