Favorite Pet Picture: In honor of National Tater Day, meet Tater Tot. He was stepped on as a pup and eventually had to undergo amputations to two of his legs. He also wears diapers due to incontinence. But he’s living a good life, loving his foster parent, and looking for someone willing to love him for the rest of his life (and to hold a bone or two for him to chew)! He is currently being cared for through Dallas Dog. If you know his fur-ever family, pass this along and introduce them!
Favorite Book Quote: Matthew 2:1-12 NRSV
In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, 2 asking, “Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage.” 3 When King Herod heard this, he was frightened, and all Jerusalem with him; 4 and calling together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born. 5 They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea; for so it has been written by the prophet:
6 ‘And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for from you shall come a ruler
who is to shepherd my people Israel.’”7 Then Herod secretly called for the wise men and learned from them the exact time when the star had appeared. 8 Then he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search diligently for the child; and when you have found him, bring me word so that I may also go and pay him homage.” 9 When they had heard the king, they set out; and there, ahead of them, went the star that they had seen at its rising, until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy. 11 On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening their treasure chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. 12 And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they left for their own country by another road.
Random Favorite: Mount Hagen Organic Fairtrade Coffee
I didn’t have coffee for years because I get addicted pretty hard. (For example, one cup per day equals headaches at night and “the flu” by the next afternoon if I skip the morning fix.) But, when I was moving and driving across several states I started the habit again. Eventually, I’ll figure out how to stop. But, in the meantime, I like having something simple, quick, and really tasty (considering it’s freeze-dried) AND that I know is cleaner and “happier” than the stuff I was going to the drive thru for every morning when I first landed in my new home.
P.S. If you want to get off coffee without feeling like you’re dying - I’ll have that program for you when I figure it out.
What were some of your favorite things this week?
& a Q
Question: Do you believe in Astrology?
Astrology was never really my thing.
I used to love looking at my horoscope - I’m a Pisces and we’re supposed to be in to that sort of thing, right?! But, they never fit.
It wasn’t until I did an experiment in which I looked at how the energy of the moon affected the energy of the day that I really started to believe there might be something to it. So I started writing my daily energy updates based a few simple bits of astrology. Even my dad said there is something “creepily accurate” about my daily updates.
Then I started listening to a few podcasts about astrology and I realized that there is so much more to it than the newspaper horoscopes. As I learned more about my houses, the placement of certain planets and certain signs, and my nodes, it all really seemed to explain my life and my purpose. I began to have a lot more trust - not just in astrology but in myself.
A special note to Christians: Before you reject me and my work, remember that it was a star that led the Wise Men to Jesus. If you believe that God has a plan for your life, it’s not a huge step to believe that He wrote your map to that plan in the stars.
The more I learn about astrology, the more clearly I see God’s work in my life.
So yes. I do believe in astrology.
