3 Favs
Favorite Pet Picture: In honor of #GetCaughtReadingMonth, meet Story. This little pup has had a hard time, but he’s now on a special diet and is feeling a whole lot better. He’s still learning about house and crate training. He needs a family that will give him lots of attention, a lap to sit on, and a fenced-in area to play. He is currently being cared for through the Humane Society of Wilkes. If you know his fur-ever family, pass this along and introduce him!
Favorite Book Quote: Self-Reg: How to Help Your Child (and You) Break the Stress Cycle and Successfully Engage with Life by Stuart Shanker
“Usually a child who is having trouble in the cognitive domain is also stressed in the biological and emotion domains, and attention to those helps relieve additional stress, making more energy available for cognitive tasks.”
Random Favorite: The Art of Discarding by Nagisa Tatsumi
This is the book that inspired Marie Kondo’s The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. I didn’t really connect with Ms. Kondo’s techniques but I’ve found that I’m able to let things go so much more naturally by keeping some of the concepts in The Art of Discarding in mind.
What were some of your favorite things this week?
& a Q
This question was first featured in the 3 Favs & a Q - July 8, 2021 edition.
Question: I want to be higher vibration, but then people in my life don’t listen to me and I just get mad and end up yelling. How can I be heard without the anger and yelling?
There are several reasons that someone might not be able to hear you. If you can identify and address your cause, it will help you be heard. Also, practicing being in a higher vibration daily (perhaps by doing the exercises that come with the Typically Invisible Daily Energy Updates) will help you get back back to a high vibration as quickly as possible after you’ve lost it and yelled. Remember: we are people, not perfect. It’s ok to make mistakes. The best thing to do after losing it is to reset and restart!
Here are some of the reasons people may not be hearing you:
You ignore yourself. You aren’t listening to yourself. Energetically, if you’re not listening to yourself, you’re giving permission for others to ignore you as well. So, the first thing to do is start listening to you. What is your heart saying to you that you’ve been choosing not to hear? One step in the direction of your heart’s desire may clear the energy enough so you are able to make yourself be heard to others in a pleasant and loving way.
The wrong wavelength. You are on a completely different wavelength than them. You may have totally different political, spiritual, or life beliefs. Your beliefs challenge their own, so they tune you out. No amount of yelling will change their minds. You can not educate them out of their beliefs. So, in this case, a ‘live and let live’ policy might be in order for you.
Too much static. I heard this theory that when you’re in your home, your stuff talks to you. Books say: “Read me!”. Trash says: “Throw me out!”. That unused thing asks, “Why did you buy me?”. That broken thing says: “Fix me!”. If our stuff is yelling at us all the time, it makes it very hard to hear ourselves think much less listen to our loved ones. Small children are particularly sensitive to the “noise” that clutter makes. Creating more clear space is one way of reducing that static so you can be better heard.
Counterproductive messaging. You’re not saying it in a way they want to hear it. This is very common with children. For example, what happens if you say “Turn off the TV.”? Chances are you get totally tuned out. Then you feel disrespected. Then you get mad. Then you start yelling and threatening. Everyone starts fighting. And the TV is probably still on.
The challenge is: How do you say something in a way that it is attractive to them? Or, better yet (in the case of requirements), how do you set the situation so that you don’t have to say anything at all?
Television is a challenging example because I believe that it is addictive which completely changes one’s ability to act in a reasonable way. No one would expect a drug addict to just put down the drugs and start their homework. So let’s move on to a different example.
In the case of a small child, rather than barking orders, perhaps you could play a game, make a request in a funny voice, or even pretend that your child is a cute little animal: “Go get your shoes on little puppy!”. Chances are your kid will start panting and barking and grab their shoes.
With older children and adults who require less hand-holding, relying on autonomy might be the best bet. Perhaps you could create a list of expectations together then leave them to it. If you stay out of it for long enough, they’ll see that you are serous about not nagging or yelling at them which could engage their intrinsic motivation.
This last cause is a tricky one to address though! Every person responds well to different forms of communication. If you have any tips or tricks that work for the kids and adults in your life, feel free to share them.
I’d love to know how you get heard without getting mad and yelling.

This is a new section in the newsletter. I’ve finally got my website up! Each week, I’ll feature a product or service.
Stone Sessions
Are you interested in knowing how stones can help you feel better, be more mindful, and live life more fully?
Do you have problems with:
Excessive scrolling on social media
Mindless eating
Always needing to be perfect - do more - accumulate degrees or other “success”
Being uncomfortable being alone
Needing to always be on the move
Having too much stuff
Having poor boundaries
Stones, like plants (like the ones used in herbal formulas), have an amazing ability to support the body, mind, and spirit. Stones and plants just work on a different level. Herbs are great for helping with physical issues. For example, mint tea feels great on a sore throat! Stones work on the energetic level so they’re great for the issues listed above, and so much more!
When you purchase a stone session, you'll have a half hour call during which you'll tell me all about the issue you'd like to address and I'll send you an email of your personal stone recommendations, descriptions of how to use the stones, and meditations to go along with the stones.
Disclaimer: This is NOT medical, financial, or legal support. If that is what you require, please obtain the help of the appropriate professional. If you are in crisis right now, you can use this resource (phone number is at the top right of the page).
