Favorite Pet Picture: In honor of #NationalApplePieDay (which was actually last Thursday), meet: Apple Pie! This baby girl is very sweet and gets along with other dogs and children. She is currently being cared for by Lost Paws Rescue of Texas. If you know her fur-ever family, pass this along and introduce them!
Favorite Book Quote: Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead by Brené Brown
The real questions for parents should be: "Are you engaged? Are you paying attention?" If so, plan to make lots of mistakes and bad decisions. Imperfect parenting moments turn into gifts as our children watch us try to figure out what went wrong and how we can do better next time. The mandate is not to be perfect and raise happy children. Perfection doesn't exist, and I've found what makes children happy doesn't always prepare them to be courageous, engaged adults.
Random Favorite: Acupuncture
Having support with ensuring my energy is flowing well so that my body can function optimally is so nice. Relaxing alone on a comfortable table in a room that smells fresh while listening to quiet, soothing music is such a huge bonus!
What were some of your favorite things this week?
& a Q
Question: How do you get a good start to your day?
As a mom, I don’t have the ideal morning routine to set my state for the day. Usually, if I’m laying awake and can’t get up without waking one of my little ones, I’ll meditate. More often, I have to get out of bed start attending to the needs of others right away. However, I’ve found a way to incorporate drinking a couple glasses of water, or some other hydrating drink, before I do much else.
I decided to start being a little more intentional about some of the things I do - one of these being how I make my morning drink. Lately I’ve been making a Magic Morning Joy Potion because I’d like to connect more with joy. Why do I call it a “magic potion”? Because it’s fun. Many foods have energies, symbolism, and meanings connected with them, so I just pay attention to those as I add them in. Here’s the recipe with some ideas for intentions I might use:
Magic Morning Joy Potion
Juice from 1/2 lemon (As I squeeze it, I say: “I squeeze joy into my life.”)
Honey (to taste) (As I drizzle it, I say: “I experience the sweetness of life.”)
Hot water (As I add it, I say: “I accept and express the warmth of love.”)
A dash of cinnamon (As I sprinkle it, I say: “I live the passion of my soul.”)
A pinch of sea salt (As I sprinkle it, I say: “I accept the nourishment of life.”)
Citrine water (As I pour it, I say: “I experience the joy and happiness of life.”)
Blue solar water (As I pour it, I say: “I love you, I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you - which is part of Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len’s Ho’oponopono.)
I also drink my water or magic potion very mindfully. I sit, taking one sip at a time, and enjoying each.
You can do the same with your morning drink to help you start your day with some beautiful intentions. For example, coffee can be used to increase awareness and attention, black tea is for strength and will-power, green tea is for purification and rejuvenation, chocolate is for love and contentment, and mint is for healing and protection. Add a little sugar for sweetness or milk for nurturing and prosperity. Or you can assign your own meanings to your ingredients.
Making up songs or singing and dancing in the kitchen while I make a hot breakfast for my family is the next step in starting my day off right.
