Favorite Pet Picture: In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, meet Axel (who is all dressed up for the occasion)! This sweet guy is a bit older and loves his lazy time, his butt scratched, and his neck massaged. He enjoys learning (especially if learning involves a good treat). If you’ve been looking for your shadow, or partner for your daily walk, Axel might be your man. Currently he’s being cared for through Fairfield County Dog Shelter. If you know the perfect fur-ever family for Axel, pass this along and introduce them!
Favorite Book Quote: Sandra Ingerman, Walking in Light: The Everyday Empowerment of a Shamanic Life
“Many people in our culture only focus on making changes in the outer world. Well, of course we need to come up with plans for our life, but we need to balance out our rational planning with exploring our inner world and learning how to cultivate a rich, peaceful, and powerful inner space. We need to move from outer visioning to the power of working with our inner visions. We need to wake up out of the collective trance that teaches us to only focus on the material realm. It is time to explore how to open ourselves to new dimensions of life.”
Random Favorite: Messages from Passed Loved Ones
My loved ones speak to me from Heaven in many ways. I’ve written about a powerful experience I had with my grandmother to answer a previous question and here’s what I experienced recently: On my birthday, my daughter, my dad, and my grandmother all sent me messages through my radio and phone. One of my grandmother’s favorite songs came on a station that doesn’t usually play that type of music. One of my little girl’s songs came on even though it’s no longer a popular song and it very rarely gets played. Then I got a “Happy Birthday” text from my uncle and the only other thing in the text thread was a video of my dad that I didn’t even realize was there. It was like they were all saying Happy Birthday to me. It was nice. And I cried. But it was all really sweet. You might say it was coincidence. Maybe it was, but it doesn’t really matter. It makes me happier to think that they were all with me that day, orchestrating those little surprises. I truly believe they were.
What were some of your favorite things this week?
& a Q
Question: I’m overwhelmed by the misuse of people and resources. I feel guilty about the trees every time I use a paper product. I think about trash dumps every time I see a plastic product. I think about slavery and child labor whenever I see a new shirt for sale. But it’s almost impossible to live in this world and avoid all that. What can I do?
I haven’t figured out how to avoid the “misuse of people and resources” yet either. But here’s what I’ve come up with. Lower vibrational energy perpetuates the problem. So, feeling guilty about the trees when using a paper product doesn’t help the issue. What I do is say “thank you”. When I use a napkin or paper towel, I thank the trees that gave their lives so that I could wipe my hands and face. No, it doesn’t solve the problem. But it does clear up the heavy energy so the problem can be solved.
If we let everything that does not honor life, the Earth, and everyone on Earth upset us, then we become so bogged down that we can not do anything about it. So, expressing gratitude for the resources we are using brings us into a better state to take the second step: Do something about it!
What can be done? You might not know what clothing brands mistreat people. But you can start small. You may not be able to avoid paper napkins if you go out to eat, but you can research reusable paper towel replacements to use at home. Then you can find some clothing brands you respect. You can begin to choose meat and dairy products that treat their animals well. You can start using second-hand products rather than buying new. You can look for new ways to reuse or recycle plastic items.
Third: If you feel called, engage in some type of activism. At the very least, vote with your dollars. After that, the world is open to you: raise awareness through blogging, get involved with a cause that seeks to eliminate child labor (or whatever cause is on your heart), talk to your representatives, or get involved with a political campaign.
Start with gratitude. Then change one thing at a time. Control what you can and have gratitude about the rest.
Best wishes to you!
