3 Favs
Favorite Pet Picture: In honor of #AdoptASeniorPetMonth, meet Gerschwin. He’s looking for a warm lap and a sunny window to call home. The vet thinks he’s 13 years old, but he could. be older. He is currently being cared for through Friends of the Mustang Animal Shelter. If you know his fur-ever family, pass this along and introduce them.
Favorite Book Quote: Waking Up in Paris: Overcoming Darkness in the City of Light by Sonia Choquette
“But we each do have to let go of what isn’t working for us; face our deepest fears; ask for help; and be messy, vulnerable, and willing to give up being in control.”
Random Favorite: Spiced Tea
It’s been so cold and I’ve had a hard time warming up so I’ve been adding a cardamom pod and a clove to my black tea. I’ll drink it like traditional Indian Masala Chai with milk and sweetener (maple syrup). It warms me right up!

& a Q
Question: What is shadow work?
Disclaimer: This is not medical, psychological, legal, or financial advice. If you need that, please contact the appropriate professional. Also, I am not an expert in Jungian psychology. I encourage you to do more research if you’re interested.
Shadow work was a form of psychotherapy popularized by Carl Jung. He described several archetypes that each person embodies - though people mainly display just a few. Each archetype has a healthy aspect and an unhealthy aspect. The shadow side, when unacknowledged, is that unhealthy aspect; it’s the side of us that acts out instinctively when we are triggered. These are the parts of ourselves that we reject or don’t even realize exist.
For example, the Lover archetype cares about maintaining relationships more than anything and they see the good in everybody. This is a very beautiful trait if acted upon consciously. However, if they are unaware of the tendency to see only the good in everyone and to hold onto relationships even if they are painful, they may get into, and stay in, relationships that are unhealthy. Everyone around them can see that the new boyfriend or girlfriend is not a good match, but the Lover will defend their new love. Then they are mistreated or forced to alter their own personality or life to accommodate the relationship (to their own detriment). This cycle occurs over and over again until the Lover is able to clearly see their own tendency - their shadow.
Shadow work is about becoming aware of our unhealthy tendencies, learning to accept them, and learning to make them our strengths rather than our weaknesses. This can be done in many ways. Perhaps you’ll want to talk through it with a trusted loved one or a professional, do some meditation, or do some free writing.
Awareness of your shadow is key. It brings the unconscious parts of your into view. Then you can recognize when the shadow is in control. Then you can begin to make changes through your actions and choices.
Best wishes as you work with your shadow.
