Favorite Pet Picture: In honor of #NationalFirstRespondersDay (yesterday) I want to introduce you to an organization and one of the dogs that was a part of it. Rescued to Rescuer is a non-profit organization that takes rescue dogs and trains them to become first responders. Jester’s life was changed by this organization. He was surrendered to a shelter by his owner because he kept jumping the fence. He was on the euthanasia list but his skills were noticed and he ended up being selected to become part of Rescue to Rescuer. He was trained as a search dog and was then paired with a fire fighter from the Orange County Fire Authority. He was able to deploy with the fire department and California Task Force 5, which allowed him to support with missing persons cases, Hurricane Harvey, and the Montecito, CA mudslide. Jester has since “crossed the rainbow bridge”. Find out more about this life-saving organization, and their dogs, at the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation.
Favorite Book Quote: AYURVEDA Lifestyle Wisdom: A Complete Prescription to Optimize Your Health, Prevent Disease, and Live with Vitality and Joy by Acharya Shunya
The Sanskrit term for health is swastha, which means “to be established in one’s own essential nature or natural state.” Page 48
He held my head and, looking steadily into my eyes, said, “Shunya, remember swastha is your true state. You are a divine being. You have a right to be healthy and, therefore, happy. Simply evoke swastha from within you. Simply have patience when challenged in body or mind, and do not quit or swerve from your path of self-care and self-love and self-worth until your swastha nature once again shines through you. And it will. Truth can never be contained for long. Clouds can hide the sun only so long. Your true nature simply is, and it is never far from you. Disease is only a symptom of imbalance. Balancing practices will once again evoke your inner swastha.” Page 50
Random Favorite: Operation Gratitude
Rather than eating candy, our family has Halloween baskets with other special treats. So, we’ve decided to send our trick-or-treat candy to Operation Gratitude. We also wanted to throw in a hand-drawn picture but, since this is a candy-only facility we’ll have to do a separate donation with the picture, a letter, puzzle books, single-serve coffee, non-pork protein, and some wipes later on. We’re pretty excited!
What were some of your favorite things this week?
& a Q
Question: There’s so much conflicting information about how to be healthy. How do I know what’s right?
It doesn’t matter what you’re looking at - diets, healing modalities, or philosophy in general - differing people swear by opposite things , saying THAT is what got them results: “It was being a vegan that helped me live a healthy life.”, “Paleo helped me lose weight.”, and so on…
So how do you figure out what’s right? The thing is, there is no right and wrong. There is only what you resonate with in the moment. Something that makes you feel strong and healthy one day might not feel right for you the next.
So, rather than make rules about what is right/wrong for you or good/bad for you and sticking to them, perhaps we need to shift the thought process.
It almost always seems that inspiration comes to us, if we’re open. If we don’t know what to do, often the thing we’re looking for is presented to us. So look for it. Listen to your body and listen to your heart. Eat what feels nourishing in the moment. Express gratitude. Do the exercise that feels uplifting in the moment. Express gratitude. Listen to the teacher that speaks to your heart in that moment. Express gratitude. Then move on.
What does this look like? A pastry that is full of sugar and white flour can be profoundly nourishing when eaten with a beloved friend in the spirit of gratitude. A walk around the block with a toddler can be better for a body than a gym membership - even if you’re going at a snail’s pace. A teacher from a philosophy that you’ve never heard of may just speak the message that your heart has been telling you all along.
So rather than living your life by rigid health rules - lean in to what you’re needing in the moment and follow your heart.

This is a new section in the newsletter. I’ve finally got my website up! Each week, I’ll feature a product or service.
UNWIND is the newest stone elixir in my Pandora’s Potions line (and my second Instagram post). Here’s what I posted (and you can head over to Instagram to see the picture):
I had one of those mornings: We were running late. Then a bowl shattered on the floor. Then…what is THAT mess?!
We finally got out the door and I was so wound up I could hardly breathe. Apparently, I hold stress in my chest. Not a great way to start the day.
So I decided I could use a little purification, peace, love, joy, and grounding. I wanted to clear off the chaos and overwhelm so I could enjoy my day.
UNWIND is what I came up with! It’s like a breath of fresh air…except that it’s water.
If you want some of this, head over to my website and check out UNWIND under the “Pandora’s Potions” tab.
Be a part of it all!
