Favorite pet picture: Denzel is a sweet, playful kitten. He has a deformity in his mouth, so he has some special needs, but he loves playing with feathers and crinkly mylar balls. If you know his future “paw parents”, pass this along and introduce them! He is currently being cared for by Luxe Paws. Also, share this with anyone you know in the Silver Lake/Los Feliz/Echo Park area of Los Angeles who might want to foster a kitten.
Favorite book quote: Braving the Wilderness: The Quest for True Belonging and the Courage to Stand Alone by Brené Brown
Belonging so fully to yourself that you're willing to stand alone is a wilderness -- an untamed, unpredictable place of solitude and searching. It is a place as dangerous as it is breathtaking, a place as sought after as it is feared. The wilderness can often feel unholy because we can't control it, or what people think about our choice of whether to venture into that vastness or not. But it turns out to be the place of true belonging, and it's the bravest and most sacred place you will ever stand.
Random favorite: Playgrounds! They provide children the opportunity to get fresh air, sunshine, exercise, and socialization - which are all so important for mental and physical health and a strong immune system. They also provide parents the opportunity to watch their children grow their skills and abilities and marvel at the miracles their children are.
What are some of your favorite things this week?
Question: There was an earthquake in Los Angeles during the US Presidential Inauguration Ceremony. What was that about?
“Wars, epidemics, earthquakes, all of nature’s disasters are man’s…some which seem unavoidable are really not. They can be mitigated by our own consciousness, our collective thoughts and intentions. The others, which seem avoidable, only require the will to prevent them.” - Same Soul, Many Bodies: Discover the Healing Power of Future Lives through Progression Therapy by Brian L. Weiss, M.D.
I’ve shared my thoughts on this quote previously. So how does that relate to an earthquake occurring during a major political event?
I believe that the energy we put out affects the world around us. I believe that many of the earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, fires, and other natural disasters are related to the vibration of our collective consciousness.
There was SO much energy during the inauguration. Change is usually accompanied by uncertainty (even when the change is good) and, if we’re unconscious about it, uncertainty can lead to fear. Also, from what I could see, the people who were most happy about the change were also concurrently expressing the most hate about the previous administration. Then there were the people who were just unhappy about what was happening…and those who felt like they’d been wronged.
Peace was not one of the primary energies during that time.
The Earth feels the tension, fear, and hate. She relieved the her own tension by shifting.
So, after the earthquake, I gathered my family and we did a mix of Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s meditations in which we sent love and peace to the Earth, all the people in our area, and all throughout the world. Then we sent love and wisdom to our leaders and all the leaders throughout the world.
Do I think it made a difference?
Yes. I absolutely do.
Why?
Because just a little bit of higher vibrational energy (like love, peace, joy, compassion, and gratitude) are SO much stronger than a lot of lower vibrational energy (like shame, guilt, fear, and hate). And I think they’re also more contagious. The love and peace I send out resonates with the love and peace others have within themselves and provides them the invitation to express that as well.
I also think Mother Earth is highly receptive. She is just like any mom who can do thankless tasks all day long while the one for whom she performs the loving tasks is often fighting her. But, then that mom receives a smile from her child and it’s all worth it. That’s what the love we send the Earth is like. A little goes a long way.
So, yes, I think the earthquake and the inauguration were related. I believe it was a request and a reminder to be more conscious of our energy and to choose to live in those higher vibrational frequencies as often as we can - especially in times of fear and hate.
